Union Background.
Once a world with no native population but acting as a center for all portal travel between worlds, this land was a valuable military asset and has seen its share of bloodshed.
Originally an empty shard, it was the home of the council of Union, a council that in theory represented all of the Shards. A few years before the Shards joined together to form one world the Shard of Union crashed into the Shard of Archipelago killing many people, destroying the Fenris isles.
Union was and still is the pivotal to the world.
Union also had the worlds largest volcano called the Union Eye, this exploded around AU1 and left a vast but very fertile lava plain
Union initially had no native population, however it was quickly claimed by many, the first major settlement being New Borgengast a home for refugees from Salem, Then The Settlement of Yana a home for Fey refugees from floods caused by Atlantis rising.
Union is also home of large werewolf/wolfen/beastkin clan that roams the vast still wild areas of Union.
Compton
In more recent times this small fishing village called Compton as grown into a major sea side resort and naval base. Compton has the worlds longest pleasure pier that boast many brothels and gambling houses.
Institute of Curiosities
The Institute of Curiosities is the size of a major town but is in fact a vast college, library and research estate, full of scholars, teachers, professors, archeologists, doctors, scientists etc.
It carries out research into unknown artifact, plants and animals, collecting strange, rare or unusual objects, plants and animals for study, before returning them back to safe natural environment.
The College of our lady is the best college in the Sards worlds, with a long waiting list of students wishing to learn within its walls.
Yana
Yána is the Fey word for Sanctuary.
The predominant race and culture of the Settlement is Fey, the town turns no one away. If they want to stay and earn a living by farming or other rural crafts. When the Union Eye erupted it deposited vast amounts of volcanic soil not very far from the settlement - as a result the farming has been very successful.
The use of metal weapons is discouraged but archery is not, and in fact Yana is famous for producing formidable archers.
The Smoke
The biggest settlement on Union
Officially the town of New Borgengast set up by Church Knight Sergeant Gordon Du Mornay in around 1812 for refugees fleeing the oppression of the Salem Church.
The town, has grown vastly quietly becoming the most industrialised city in the world, its streets are full of workshops burning coal and melting iron dug from hills around the West coast of Union.
The street are tightly pack, and noisy with machines, between the street run many canals carrying the heavy loads of material consumed by this ever growing city to and from the docks.
Workshop use machines to produce things such as textiles at a rate that would outstrip a whole nation, people are used like any other consumable resource and while not slaves live poor lives working 7 days a week and rarely seeing daylight.
The streets a filled on most days with a dense smog that can take lives at thickest, but nobody seems to care, they only care about getting out the next order on time.
