I have never done any live roleplaying before is this system suitable for me?
Many people have had their first live role playing experience at Ascendancy LRP, and most come back for more. Don't be worried about all the complexities just watch what other players do and you should quickly pick it up and as with anything new if you have question's ask them, if we don't know your difficulties we can't help.
Are there any discounts available?
Discounts are available for block booking of a group of events such as all the Core events or all the Strangehaven events and also for paying for all events in advance. These are announced at the beginning of the year. For information contact
enquiries@ascendancylrp.co.uk Do I need to know the Ascendancy LRP world background?
Most of the background is taken from periods and places in Earth history with a few tweaks, so it very easy to gain a
quick overview. However the more you know the easier you may find it. Some new players come with no knowledge and learn as they play, others read every scrap of information available, its entirely up to you, talk to refs and other players they will help, don't forget your character may be from a isolated farm with little knowledge of the outside world.
Do I have to book on every event?
No each game will have its own plot for that weekend, as well as continuing with your personal plot, there may be a story arc that continues from event to event, but missing events will not stop you getting quickly and easily involved.
Do I need to understand all the rules?
The answers to this is most definitely no, most people learn enough to suit their characters skill, however if you read the section under
rules, called overview this question is answered more thoroughly.
Who should I talk to at events?
If you have any question at a event find either a ref (or player) not currently involved in the action or an IC (in character) conversation, stick you finger in the air indicating your OOC (out of character) and ask if they have time to talk to you, go to one side and hopefully they can help or point you in the direction of someone who can. During the event the refs also usually have a OOC area, when you approach this area make sure they see you and wait until they indicate its OK to approach since they may be discussing plot or putting on costume they don't wish you to see.
What is a Core event?
Core events are the main events in Ascendancy LRP, while each can be played stand alone, Core Events are linked with a main plot arc that includes all the Ascendancy events.
What is a Bloodlines event?
Bloodlines were a series of linked events running in 2006. These event where for a small numbers of players and helped determine the shape of world after the re-set. One event in this series remains to be run in November 2007
What is a Strangehaven event?
The Strangehaven world background is part of the Ascendancy LRP world background set in the same time line and characters may be played in both games, hence there will inevitably be crossover between the two campaigns. However, Strangehaven is intended to be a standalone game, running independently from the Shards core events. It will have its own plot, NPCs and story arc, but events and actions originating from Ascendancy LRP events may influence Strangehaven and happenings in Strangehaven may impact on the rest of the Ascendancy LRP events.
How much Karma & HAP do I get per event?
The amount of Karma you gain can occasionally vary but unless it states otherwise you gain 10 Karma per event for a Full player character or New blood, with directed player characters and crew gaining 5 Karma. HAP is gained by full and New Blood characters at a rate of 1 per event.
Note once spent on a character Karma & HAP are lost, they do not come back with new character.
What is the storyline of Ascendancy LRP?
The story is constantly changing and evolving, so this is a hard question to answer! However, you can read the story so far in the campaign section of the Ascendancy LRP Wiki (please note, however, that the pages of Wiki are editable by players. Consequently they do not necessarily represent the views of Chimera Leisure or Ascendancy LRP.). What happens next is up to the Players, including you!
What is the minimum age for players/Crew?
There is no minimum age. Ascendancy LRP events are regularly attended by children of all ages, but any minors (ie anyone under the age of 18), must be accompanied by an adult (i.e. someone aged 18 or over) who will be responsible for them for the duration of the event. The accompanying adult must be the minor's parent or legal guardian, or have written permission (from a parent or legal guardian) to bring the minor to the event.
