Info:
A gabled and unspoilt manor house, dating from 1586 (Jacobean) which stands in 220 acres. It was once the home of a rather brave gentleman who supported the Royalist cause during the Civil War. Major's Leap, on Wenlock Edge, is where he spurred his horse to jump off the hillside rather than risk capture and the loss of important papers he was carrying. Ancient timber spiral staircases, original plasterwork, a baronial banqueting room and timber framed lounge contribute to the unique atmosphere at this National Trust property. Many rooms have views of the Hope Valley and Corvedale along the Welsh Marches and there are countryside walks starting from the front door. The Long Mynd, the best known of Shropshire's Hills, offers good walking with views along the ridges.
