Downtime Battles rules
Occasional Table top war games will be fought to represent IC battles in the Ascendancy world.
Players are encouraged to contribute to the game via their Player Characters in the following ways:
A) Provide forces/armies/specialists
B) Influence the forces during the LRP event prior to the battle.
C) Send their character to take part
D) Attend and control some of forces in the battle on the tabletop
A) Provide forces/armies/specialists
Player characters can provide forces through their Social Class, Influence over groups, Military Rank, Hiring mercenaries or through other in game negotiations. The quality, final quantity and style of men hired will depend on the source.
Players should also specify which side they will be supporting.
Social Class
- Lower Upper Class can send up to 10 men
- Upper Upper Class can send up to 30 men
- Ruling Class can send up to 100 men
- Upper Ruling Class Variable, but plenty
Note men sent from own forces weakens your own defences.
Influence over Groups
Influence over a group, tribe, organisation, army can send up to 30 men
- Anyone with Accepted influence or below means sorry we can't help with any men.
- Anyone with Sociable influence may petition for the men to be sent, 50% chance if the reason is in line with their groups agenda
- Anyone with Respected influence will successfully send about 30 men if the reason is in line with their groups agenda
- Anyone with Admired influence may petition for the men to be sent, 50% chance even if the reason is not in line with their groups agenda (providing not against it).
- Anyone with Venerated influence will successfully send about 30 men or perhaps even more even if the reason is not in line with their groups agenda (providing not against it).
Military Rank
Does not provide troops, since the men belong to someone else's army, however it will increase the amount men available. Captains, Tribal elders, Knights or similar can gain and extra 5 to 10 men via their Status or gain one level of influence over army groups, Generals, Admirals or similar can gain a extra 20 to 30 men via Status or can gain 2 levels of influence.
Example a lower upper class Captain could send 20 men; A Venerated Upper Upper Class General could send 90 men.
Hiring Mercenaries
1 Lords Silver will hire around 10 men for an easy fight and for a couple of days or a couple good soldiers for week
1 Kings Ransom will hire around 10 good men for a month
1 Dragons Horde will hire around 100 men for a year or 500 men for a month
Or something else
If you can think of another reason you could get forces there to help send an email and we will try to take account of it.
B) Influence the forces during the LRP event prior to the battle.
In Game
You may use your playing skills in game at a event to try to get armies or other forces to help you, not help, go somewhere else, not fight for your opposition etc.
Most battles will take place directly after an LRP event with information leading up to it included in the event someway thus giving players the chance to influence troops that attend.
A Note
You may contribute in other ways note envisioned by these rules from sending medics, to altering weather conditions, should you wish to have a unique contribution then let us know how and what.
C) Send their character to take part
You may send your character to lead a unit, and or just contribute their skills to the battle, they will classed has hero's and given appropriate skills.
Note if your character attends a battle it will be doing nothing else during downtime between events.
Characters sent to join the battle risk injury which will be carried forward into the LRP game for certain number of events. Injuries will be given out via a random table only if the character gets wounded as part tabletop battle. Players characters won't die as a result of tabletop battle wounds.
Players sending their character to join the battle may say if they wish to be careful, normal or aggressive high risk and will be played accordingly.
Characters who take part in the battle will take a share of any benefits gained, with higher rewards given those who took higher risks.
Remember to tell us which side your fighting for.
Its also helps but not necessary to give us quick brief of some of skills you might use and how.
D) Attend and control part some of forces in the battle on the tabletop
The battles will played out in the Chimera Shop at the date and time announced, any player is welcome to come along and control of a portion of the army and/or their own character if present.
Note we limit the game to a total of 4 players (2 a side) for practical reasons, this number excludes the GM who referees and records the game.
